About us

Our Aims

Bereavement is often a distressing and bewildering experience and our first duty is to offer professional and sympathetic advice and guidance to deal with all the necessary formalities and arrangements that may be required. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive funeral service with excellent facilities that our clients can use at any time. A manager is on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to help - you only need to telephone.

A Brief History

The business was first established in 1892 when Daniel Robinson bought a building company at Stansted where he began to make coffins and to arrange funerals.

In 1912 he bought another building company at Bishop’s Stortford where he also arranged funerals and supplied memorials.

In 1966 a branch office was built in Wych Elm, Harlow and in 1976 new premises were acquired at 79/81 South Street, Bishop’s Stortford. It was here that the Company developed its Head Office.

In 1987 a new funeral home was built at Great Dunmow and in 1989 the Company bought a funeral director’s business in nearby Sawbridgeworth.

Daniel Robinson & Sons amalgamated with the respected, established family business of H Peasgood & Son of Saffron Walden in 1994 and members of the Peasgood family are still employed in the business.

In 1998 a new funeral home in Epping High Street was opened.

In 2000 Daniel Robinson & Sons purchased the old-established firm of funeral directors W C Brown & Sons in Manor Street, Braintree. Ivan Brown still works for the Company.

The Harlow office was the subject of a major extension and refurbishment programme in 2001, providing the Company with a superb purpose-built funeral home to serve the community of Harlow and its surrounding area.

In 2003 the Company achieved the coveted Investors in People standard. We are proud of our staff, for whom we maintain a regular training programme to ensure the highest level of professional service.

During 2004/5 the funeral home at Bishop’s Stortford was also extended, refurbished and modernised to provide superior facilities for both clients and staff.

We take great pride in our funeral homes and our vehicles. All the Company’s funeral homes are decorated and furnished tastefully throughout to provide a comfortable, dignified and welcoming environment for clients and visitors.

Today the business is owned mainly by the third generation of the family founder, Daniel Robinson. Gary Neill MBIE is the Managing Director of the Company and is based at the Head Office at Bishop’s Stortford.

As an independent family business, the Company has a total commitment to its clients’ individual needs and an overriding respect for the deceased, qualities which were recognised in 1993 and 2001 when Daniel Robinson & Sons were named Regional Funeral Planner of the Year and in 2004 when the Company was awarded the title of National Funeral Planner of the year.
